Casting dark spells of pain and suffering are the warlock’s bread and butter. This warlock leveling guide shows how they can cause massive destruction from afar but are rarely in the middle of the fighting because of their low armor class.
Exclusive to warlocks are soul shards, which are used in various spells and must be scavenged from defeated mobs. The warlock class is easy to level quickly since they are incredibly self sufficient when playing solo.
When raiding with a party, warlocks often do massive amounts of damage and should take care not to pull aggro away from the tank.
Warlocks are only allowed to wear cloth armor, not unlike the other casting classes.
They may only use wands, staves, swords and daggers as weapons.
Probably the coolest power of a warlock is the summoning of demonic minions (Doomguard, Felguard, Felhunter, Imp, Infernal, Succubus, and Voidwalker). Every minion has it’s role with both pluses and minuses.
Warlocks primarily use damage over time (DoT) and DD (direct damage) spells, but also have several utility spells that can be handy such as summoning Soul Stones. They can even conjure up some useful items and resurrect fallen players by using soul shards.
They also have a minor self healing power when using drain life, and some crowd control abilities too. Warlocks can also acquire their Felsteed and Dreadsteed mounts for a much lower cost than the other classes because they are quest rewards summoned via spells and not simply purchased.
The Affliction talent tree uses talents that are meant to improve the warlock’s DoT’s, drains, and curses. This spec works best for raiding, boss killing, and farming. Affliction is the best specialization for leveling quickly.
Demonology talents are designed to make summoned demonic minions stronger and more useful, in addition to enhancing conjuring spells and providing you other passive bonuses. This is a good spec for PvP, leveling, and overall survivability. This talent tree can be utilized during lower levels to make up for the lack of decent spell damage loot.
Destruction uses talents that are meant to amplify the power of the warlock’s shadow and fire spells, which are mainly direct damage (DD) spells used to quickly take out 1 opponent. This spec is not as popular as the other specs at lower levels. It requires a ton of soul shards, isn’t mana efficient, and it is hard to use for people who want to play solo.
